“APOPTOSIS”, A NATURALLY OCCURING CELL PROCESS.
My senior capstone collection was inspired by apoptosis, a naturally occurring cell process in which our defective cells commit voluntary suicide in order to make space for new, healthy cells to form. The concept of this process can be taken metaphorically, being that as humans we must let go of habits and thought processes that no longer serve us in order to create space for us to heal and grow.
I researched what this process looks like under a microscope and practiced with various fabric manipulations in order to achieve my desired effects. The color palette was heavily inspired by the images, diagrams and videos I saw during my research.
I focused on creating garments that hid the body, aiming to draw the eye toward the silhouette and color. This collection taught me how to problem solve and think outside-the-box with the materials I utilized in order to keep structured shapes.

Apoptosis is a reflection of the self-healing journey I began my junior year of college. Self-healing requires self-acceptance and the ability to let go of the past. I wanted to visually showcase a process that so accurately described what I was experiencing at the time: shedding parts of myself and leaving them in the past in order to grow into the woman I want to become.
Creating this collection meant choosing to set aside the pressure to be perfect and embracing the freedom to experiment. By allowing myself to let my imagination run wild and to play like a child, I tapped into a part of myself that was unafraid to fail. I sought to grow and learn as much as I could, and I can confidently say this collection is a reflection of that journey. I am so thankful to my professors, classmates, and my family for guiding me and believing in me. Without you, this collection wouldn’t be nearly as cool.
